last night we attended the bno spellbound at pakhuis de zwijger - Frédérik Ruys was speaking on designing infographics, specifically those he designed as “visual journalism.” there was a bit of a debate on what makes an infographic an infographic, and not an illustration - when you ask a room full of designers this question, you can be certain there will be arguments.

last night, we went over to Simon Wald-Lasowski’s opening at foam. great show, great drinks, great garden!

it’s always nice to have a visit to robstolk, we love to work with them!

Thursday night we attended a pop quiz evening run by Bart de Baets and Rustan Söderling. It was one of the most difficult quiz nights we’ve ever attended - 100% centered around music, some samples were only a second long!

We had a lot of fun and also discovered a great Portuguese beer, which we can highly recommend.

for their 2009 annual report, Mediafonds worked with two photographers, Sanne Peper and Nadine Stijns, who documented the making of all the productions that started in 2009.  mannschaft designed the annual report as two books: a photo book and a separate book with the year’s key figures.

we wanted the photographs to be integrated, but still wanted each photographers’ work to be viewable independently. by cutting every other page 1cm shorter, the book can be browsed front-to-back (to view Nadine’s photographs) or back-to-front (to view Sanne’s photographs) - the video below shows how.

the new website we designed for sica was developed in conjunction with their new identity (designed by Irma Boom). the identity plays with the concept of the many points on a map where Dutch cultural activities take place, so we expanded on that idea by using 4 levels of custom drawn world maps that become larger as the user navigates further into the site. we also animated the logo for the website, giving it a subtle pulse.

the site launched recently and the site builders are still ironing out the last issues, but check the new sica site.

last thursday mannschaft traveled to Boxtel (all the way down in Brabant) to visit Binderij Hexspoor, the bindery we worked with to produce the 2009 annual report for Mediafonds. the annual report was in its final stage of being bound, so we were happy to be there to see the design process come to a close.
